old promise still counting the stars
sbf 2109 God makes promises. It's what he does. I'll make you a great nation and bless you. I'll make you famous; you'll be a blessing. I'll bless those who bless you; those who curse you I'll curse. All the families of the Earth will be blessed through you. Genesis 12:2-3 MSG Abram was seventy-five years old when God made this promise. He (God) took him outside and said, "Look up at the heavens and count the stars---if indeed you can count them." Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be." Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness. Genesis 15:5-6 NIV Now when Abram was 99 years old, God sealed his promise with Abram, and gave him a new name, Abraham. Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born. Genesis 21:5 MSG God Keeps his promises! It's what he does. So, Isaac had a son, Jacob, and Jacob had twelve sons, and so on...God indeed made Abraham a great nation. But the world wasn't such a great place and that hasn't changed. We still don't know how to get along with one another. We still make war with one another. We still kill one another. We can't help ourselves. It's called sin. It's in our DNA. But God had a great plan. He had this plan from the beginning, even before the beginning. God would become one of us. He would become one of Abraham's Sons... Jesus, The Son of God, was born to Abraham's great, great, great,.. granddaughter, Mary. Jesus, The Son of God, came to save the world, and indeed he did! Jesus, The Son of God, died on a cross for us so that we could be a son or daughter of God. Jesus, The Son of God, came so that we could live forever with him in heaven. It was a brilliant plan, with just one little catch... Do you remember what Abram did, before he became Abraham, and started having all those kids? Abram believed the LORD'S promise!! And because of this belief, Abram was made right with GOD! God also makes a promise to all of us! God offers us eternal life with him, a free gift, we just need to open our hearts and believe and he will come in. He will make us sons and daughters of the King, not just any King, but the King of Kings! Do you believe? Life on earth will never be a bowl of cherries, but Jesus will be there with us in our joy, and in our sufferings. And when we die we will see his face. There will be no more suffering or tears in heaven. God says so, and God always keeps his promises! "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 NIV Receive the Good News!! Hopefully, Susan ;) PS: To all of my poet friends. Life Poems is open for submissions for the March issue. I am looking for poems that affirm life and celebrate the joys of living as sons and daughters of the King of Kings! Check submission guidelines on the Life Poems Page of this blog! I am looking forward to reading and publishing your poetry as a witness and encouragement to my readers. PSS: Did you know that believers are also "Sons of Abraham," We are the spiritual sons and daughters, believers in the promised messiah, Jesus, The Son of God! Count the stars if you can...
